Tuscaloosa, Alabama, United States
Been back a week or so from my vacation in Minden, and back to work building new homes in Tuscaloosa. The week I was gone, we had a visit by Mark Scott's crew fro Bay Waveland Ms. Habitat and they moved Camilla Coach's house along pretty well. Set the rest of the roof trusses and stick built part of it and got the house blacked in. Since Ive'been back we had a group from south and north Carolina working with us and this week we have a group from Florida. We have the metal roof installed completely, have finished all of the Hardi cement siding and are putting the finishing touches on'the exterior trim, columns and handrails. The elecrical, plumbing and HVAC have all been roughed in and we expect the Larry and Herman Drywall Hang and finish ready to paint show to start Thursday around tennish and be ready for painting inside Friday morning. These guys don't play around. Ive had fun on the weekend doing my therapy( where I get to actually do some of'the work that I like to do) and'have been cutting up primed 1 x 12's into diminished square columns that sit on top of the six half brick colums across'the front of the houses full width porch. Pictures to follow when were ready, I promise. Americorp River 3 team has been great. Brandon and i and a cupla staff joine d them after work today for some PT (personal training) that is part of their weekly regimen. We kicked a soccer ball around for about an hour. Josh, one of the corps members overheard me say to one of the 75 year old volunteers that I would be turning old this month ( the big six-oh on the 18th). Got my ticket already to run back home (Northern Virginia) for Thanksgiving. Looking forward to the gathering of the clan from the five corners of the country. This month looking forward to a visit from Craig Snow and son Jeremy who will join us for a week and also heard from Miss Kim Miller who is planning to bring a group from Ohio in mid December to help'us out for a week. Kim came to help us in Port Sulphur for a week and stayed three months or so and helped us close up shop down there. Big game Saturday with LSU. Scalpers are asking and getting $800 or so per ticket. That's all for now- Luv ya,  Peter Back again' same blog a week later. Appy Jones house has the deck completed and walls standing on it. We have two groups here with us this week from Baltimore, Md. and Pennsylvania. Working on final details house 3 (Allyssa,s home) and rolling on house 4 for Camilla Coach. Her home is drywalled, finished and done painting exterior and interior, started tile and bamboo floors today too. Exterior trim and columns are fuggetaboutit. Dewayne is running Appy Jones and I'm watching the other two. Cat is at the Carter build in Haiti this week. Expecting Doug Brushaber to come help for a few days here soon. Stay tuned for more. Peter
