We got rained out on Saturday for outside work so we gathered two of the groups of volunteers who had come out to help and we went over to Y's Acres to continue with the restoration fo the camp that within a few weeks will be housing groups of twenty or so. One of the two trailers is patched and painted and the prototype of the bunk beds is made. Since my last post, we received our new Americorp team, River 4. They are nine- three guys and six young ladies. The team leader is Arianna. They will be working with us monday-friday for the next eight weeks. They are a great asset for'our affiliate. Quick studies, ambitious, wanting to learn. Ellen and Jackie installed the quarry tile in the kitchen area. Bobby and Nick removed the two windows where the fridge will be going and blanked over the opening with matching wood scavenged from phase two's lions den walls. The Lion's den is a separate out building on'the property that is also quite in need of repair before it is livable as a guest house. Budget restraints have set this one in Phase two of the construction activities ou there but Brandon, I think, used the word "devious" when he noticed my scavenging of the material from there. Ooops, no, really. . . Last week also checked out the used equipment that we will be purchasing for the camp kitchen. Local dealer, Tommy Sanford, cutting us a good break on a commercial fridge, three compartment stainless steel sink, a countertop convection oven and restaurant style ice making machine. This past week weve been insulating the ceiling of the kitchen and running all new electric and'plumbing lines to where the new equipment will be placed. We prepped a place for a thru the wall ac and heat unit and set that in place. We painted all of the picnic tables Roll Tide Crimson red. Jumping around here a little, I realize, but, hey, that's the way I work, so I guess that's the way I write about it too, eh? Brandon dropped off some multi colored carpet square samples that we are going to staple down over the old worn and stained carpet in the bunkhouse trailer. Oh, and we also framed a new roof over said trailer and installed nice new green metal roofing over it. Whenever I work on a roof, I always remember Mr Saunders who was one of my teachers in carpentry apprentice school a hundred years ago. He said the purpose of roof was two-fold- First was to keep'out the elements and the next was for the'ecstatics. I guess he meant aesthetics, but maybe you would become ecstatic if you saw this roof? In other news, I was treated to an event on Friday night at the Bama Theatre in Tuscaloosa. It was the Fab Four Beatles tribute band. It was awesome. The performers captured the essence of the original group and actually played all of the music note for note. There was also a fellow who impersonated Ed Sullivan who had me laughing with tears. It was great. Tjis Friday I head up to Nashville for a t
