Great week last week! We finished up phase one of the renovation of Y's Acres in preparation of receiving and hosting our first group of out of town volunteers. We put the final touches on the kitchen and bath house as well as started on the second sleeping trailer with the help of Larry Bonhoff who brought a group mostly from Bethel Lutheran Church in Minnesota. Larry and his group of twenty or so this week (some leave and a fresh replacements come for another week) pulled up the drive to Y's acres on Tuesday and what a feeling of joy to see them again! They had worked with us restoring homes in Biloxi, Ms. a few years back. Most of the men and women are highly skilled. One father and son team, Matt and Matt, are builders back in Minn. and know construction and housebuilders very well and eat up whatever is given to them to accomplish. On Friday of this week, Brandon scheduled a Frame-a-House day. He prepared all during the week to get the site ready with materials, components and tools and on Friday all converged on site. Americorps, Larry's group and local people from Brandon's church (LDS) and in a day we did as advertized. In the morning there was a deck. At 4:00 pm there was a frame of a house with a stick built hip roof with black felt paper on it. Awesome! This is the 8th home we have started since the tornado hit here last April.
