Entering March Madness

Tuscaloosa, Alabama, United States
A great big thank you to the group from 1st Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood, Mo. who came down to help out for the week. We are gearing up for our own Habitat/Tuscaloosa March Madness. Nearly one hundred volunteers for each week during the month and we will be working on 6 new home simultaneously plus Y's Acres. This past week we finished up Keith and Amie's on 4th street with Liz's leadeership heading up the final landscaping and Mr. Bill Berry's able leadership started (and nearly finished) the framing next door. Also did final puchlist inside of K and A's to ready for the dedication ceremony which will be at noon on Monday. Brandon has been working fast and furious to get sites ready and materials on site ready for the heavy month coming up. Fortunately, Cat, who almost was going to leave, is back and will lead the completion of the home on 45th. Dewayne will take a one month sabbatical from making cabinets to be house leader on 2402 5th and old but new guy, Laird from Texas will be with us for the month of march to lead house at 2405 4th street.   Laird and Ms. Nancy are my new roommates. Was going to have son Alex with us too but, oops, let's don't go there. On Friday a group from Seven Rivers Christian School (Florida) came to work with us. We have been finishing up at Y's acres, completing the second sleeping trailer, finishing up the bathrooms (We have three women from Ohio arriving today to stay the week, so installation of the mirrors in the womens bath slid up to #1 spot on the priority list).   We also have hired Mr. Pete as site supervisor also but he will eventually run the re-habbing arm of our affiliate. He will be overseeing one of the two new homes we are building on 7th street. Don't quite have all the homeowner names sorted out yet and it feels like the construction guys may get ahead of the family selection guys, but that would be some happy trouble, I suppose. We started demolition on the Lion's Den at Y's Acres.. Not much left of it (see picture) but it will be great when we are done with it. Gonna be a crazy month but looking forward to the challenge. Sure glad God's in charge. We're just his hands and feet. That's all for now- stay tuned- Luv ya- Peter

What a fantastic experience. There is nothing like a "hands-on" mission trip to make one feel like he/she is making a real difference. We are eagerly awaiting our next opportunity. Good Luck, Peter, and thanks for everything!
