Seven Rivers and 2nd Coming of Kairos

Tuscaloosa, Alabama, United States
The entire senior class (less three) of Seven Rivers Christian School gave of their time last week to come work with Habitat Tuscaloosa. They worked primarily at our camp called Y's Acres, putting the finishing touches on our newly renovated volunteer camp outside of town. Dana James, the Headmaster of the school came with his son Timothy (who achieved most favored son status during the trip) and 21 or so other seniors. They worked on finishing up the carpet and vinyl and hardi siding on the second trailer, thereby bumping up the capacity of the camp to 40, just in the nick of time since this week we have jsut that amount scheduled and staying there. Staff memeber Kandy led the girls in painting and carpentry in the kitchen and bath houses- love them men's bathroom stall doors courtesy of Blake and Brenna, first timers in the carpentry department, but hey, did a great job. The majority of the guys were dispatched to dig a trench from the new septic tank towards the Lions's Den (future guest home). One of the fellows was overheard asking, Don't they make a machine for this? Did a great job, nonetheless, with picks and shovels even across the tough gravle road. Aaron the plumber came out while they were there and tied in the line to the tank and glued a bunch of sections up so that they could backfill the trench. All in all their team did agreat job and we hope to see them again in the future.
The second coming of the Kairos Carpenters refers to Larry and Cheryl Wingers group out of Lafayette, Indiana . They came to work with us back in September here in Tuscaloosa after a trip to Joplin fell through. Their contact their had them lined up to sort clothes and Larry called me at the last minute to ask if we had more productive work for them. we did and although we werent sure where they would be staying, we told him, Come on! and they did. They (25) are here this week, living at the camp and participating in our first Blitz build, where we will complete a whole house in two weeks (s-l-o-w-!) by blitz standards. The shell of the house was up on Monday by 5:00 pm with black paper on the roof. Trades were dancing in the house today, Electric, plumbing and heating subs. to be inspected tommorrow and start drywall. Also have 5 other houses under construction at same time with the 60 volunteers who are here this week.  Fun stuff- you should try it- that's allfor now- Love ya- Peter
