Tuscaloosa, Alabama, United States
Despite the 90 degree plus temp all week, we brought Markedia's home within striking distance of completion with the help of the good folks from Spruce Pine, NC. This is the second home here that is being sponsored by Major League Baseball. Our goal for completion got moved up on us and instead of the normal 8 weeks or so to build a house, we are calling this one a "modified blitz"- basically three weeks to complete the 3 bedroom, 2 bath house. The inside of the house is 98% complete- little details and lots of cleanup- and we start plants and sod on the outside tommorrow. Sandy and Eric (husband and wife team) installed all of the sheet vinyl and hung all the interiors doors, Bob did a great job on the exterior handrail- the rest of the crew finished up all of the exterior trim, touch up paint, shelving, bath fixtures,, etc. On Thursday of last week the group whent sightseeing at the Civil Rights museum in Birmingham, which left the house empty for the trades to run around and hook up all the lights, sinks, air diffusers and what not. Markedia was there working right beside the volunteers for most of the week. She is a FB friend of mine also, and she's got me on the countdown of days-to-completion. Another couple also showed up to work with us this past week in a Class A RV.   Theya re Michael and Cindy Baker from Santa Fe, NM. Cindy works with Ted Swisher out there. They have also been earning extra credit, helping me evenings and weekends at the Lion's Den. I showed Michael how to run the water lines using PEX. I think we've got a convert now. He loved it.   And finished roughing it in. They have to leave on Tuesday. The great and terrible part of my job is meeting so many great people, but then they leave. But then sometimes, they come back! Hint, hint, nudge, nudge, Pastor Bill. Thanks to all from Spruce Pine for a great week. Stay tuned for what should be a dedication of the home this coming week. Peace out. Peter

Hi Peter,

Thank you so much for your updates on the progress in Tuscaloosa. I hope they know how fortunate they are to have you. Really makes me more anxious to get back in October, wish I had time to make it back before that. Be safe.
