O-H! I-O!

Tuscaloosa, Alabama, United States
We got our RV hookup ready just in the nick of time for our first two real RVers. Jared had told me they were coming for a while, but Mr. Procrastinator waited until the last minute to rent the trencher and run the electric and water lines out to the field at the Y's Acres camp. The two couples from Columbus, Ohio were Eve and Greg who were on their maiden voyage with their new 5th wheel trailer and shiny red Ford F-150 crew cab. Rod and Dorothy (Don't call me Dot!) Beehner, their neighbors in Columbus came in their conversion van. (See picture). I ran the pex line for the water- no leaks, thank you, and our electrician ran the two 30 amp lines for the electrical hookup for the two RV spots, one on each side of a 6x6 we planted at the end of the ditch..   Rod had a box that read various error messages and evidently, Sam the electrician would have to come back. He hooked them up as 220 instead of 110. He came Monday and tweeked it but still it reads reverse polarity. Not sure what that means other than it is one of the error messages. It seemed to power the two rvs though and nothing burned up. Another group was staying at the camp also from New Jersey. They were unaffected by Sandy's wrath last week as they were about 50 miles inland. They worked with Stephen on Jessie Hill's home and installed all of the laminate flooring and ceramic tile and grout. One more group, also from O-H   I-O, worked with Joey, and completed a bunch of the siding and metal roof on Sonya Moores future home on 7th street.
This past Tuesday, election day, Tuscaloos Academy's 300+ high school students were given the day off since their school is a polling place, and they all came out for half a day to help us . New Joe Chastine (recently hired to head up our major repair arm) herded about 200 of them and cleaned up lots at Juanita Drive and installed silt fences. About 30 young, strong young men and shovels made fast work of levelling out the dirt under two foundations on 7th street. Tedious work since it cant be done by machine since the cinder block foundation is already laid and the dirt within the perimeter of that has to be levelled out. Boom, boom, bad-a-bing, bad-a-boom and it was done! Great timing, and the elders from Ohio were quite pleased that they were spared that exercise and also could now proceed with the construciton of the floor system, which they did and did well. We also stood up one long wall and put together the frame for the safe room.
Last night there was an auction for Habitat that was put together by Heather and Jared (our office mgr and volunteer coordinator), both of whom were sick all week with the flu and put the event together from their laptops while sick in bed. Turned out well though, and Heather told me that the goal was $75K (enough for one home) but $200 K was raised!! Woo-Hoo!
Lion's Den is getting closer. Had some help on Saturday and we grouted the tile in the living room that had been set for a few months. Tying in the water to the RV's had a by-product in that the water to the Lion's Den is now also hooked up. Alabama Power's hot water heater is doing it's job now. Thanks, Paige. Closer and closer. Maybe by Christmas.
This week brings back Larry and Cheryl Winger from Lafayette, Indiana and the Kairos Carpenters. Full report in a week- Peace, Out. Luv Ya'll. Roll Tide, anyway!   Peter
