Back to work

It was a refreshing two week break, but, back to work we go! Had a beautiful group from Lawrenceville, Georgia working with us last week. It was their churches first mission trip for the young adults. Four guys (includes their leader Sam) and seven young ladies. We were working on completing the home at 21 Juanita Drive for Suzie Cousette and her son Jeremy. On Monday, the house was just finished drywall and bare floors. By Friday, the interior was nearly complete. These kids rocked! Painted two coats on the interior and finished the exterior, including staining the handrails. Installed all of the ceramic tile in the kitchen, bathrooms and laundry and also installed all of the Pergo laminate flooring everywhere else. Cam and Roy who are with the Mennonites, installed the kitchen cabinets and countertops and the tricky transition strips between the break in materials on the floor (where the tile meets the laminate). Since this home was built on a concrete slab, all the transiton strips had to be screwed to the concrete and then have the screw holes capped with plugs of the same material. We had some locals helping also, like Alex. He did a lot of exterior paint touchup. We also have with us this week Rob and Debra who are volunteering with us and are staying at the Y's Acres camp in their RV. On Thursday night, I invited the group over to the Lion's Den for Pizza dinner. While we were all gathered in the living room, listening to Jeff's engagement story, I suddenly heard what I thought to be someone's strange cell phone ring. It turned out to be a baby goat that had wandered up to us and was bleating (? is that the word?). Must have been one of the neighbors pets- it had a collar on. So cute.
When the group left on Friday, they presented me with a big poster/card with notes of appreciation written on it, with some of my "peterisms" like Rinse and Repeat) . I was moved.
This week we have a group of Korean young folk from a church in Los Angeles, Ca. with us. They arrived Sat afternoon, so we all went to worship at Capstone this morning. From there, they drove up to Birmingham for some sight seeing. Looking forward on brushing up on my Korean this week.. Dess-um-ni-da. (done)    Peter
