Wrapping up Ryan's

Three weeks ago we had two big groups come to work with us. Larry Wingers Kairos Carpenters from (mostly) Indiana and Lori's group Ziegles Church from Pennsylvania. Both groups were excited because it was billed as a one week blitz that they would be participating in, where they would see the start and finish of a new home in the week here. One part of our typical Monday morning kick-off talk is where we ask for flexibility. Fortunately, both groups were understanding of our situation that we had too many people for the one project (56 total out of towners that week, plus the Mennonites, plus the RV Care-A- Vanners, plus locals, etc). One of the other main projects that we started that week was for Ryan and his family. This was an addition and new storage building for a beautiful boy named Ryan and his family. Ryan is severly handicapped with something called spineabifida, and is unable to move about by himself. When he was born, almost ten years ago, the doctors predicted that he wouldn't live past his first birthday. He lives with his Mom and two sisters in a single wide trailer waaay out in the sticks. His medical needs are such that they recieve a truckload of supplies once a year, which had been stored all throughout the single wide and the one bumpout addition that was done a while back. His sisters couldnt use their own bedroom due to all the stuff.
Joe Chastine of Habitat and Calvary Baptist found the need and we agreed to build a 12 x 16 storage building and also a 12 x 12 bathroom off the trailer . The Kairos Carpenters in their week here framed the storage building foundation and walls. The Mennonites, RV Care-A-Vanners and myself got the outside substantially complete this past Friday. Ryan's grandfather (aka Pee-Paw) was a big help throughout the project. He told me one day that he was a pretty good chili cooker and I told him that I didn't believe him, so the next Thursday, he proved it. Unfortunately for Joey Crimmins, it came on the day after his last day working on that project. Oh, well, I sent him a nice picture of it on Facebook, though.
We took Ryan for a test drive up and down the ramp on our last day there. Ryan has intense, piercing blue eyes and such a bright spirit for one in his condition. It was a joy working on improving his living conditions.
Starting a new home for Ms. Audrey on Monday. Next month it's off to Zambia with Larry Winger (thanks Brandon) for a week build. That's all for this time- Ciao- Luv ya-   Peter
