What a day!

So, it was Monday and it was supposed to be my day off. This past Friday we had started a new project in the west end of town. The homeowner, any Witherspoon, is 94 years old. She was already nervous even before we started work on her home. The scope of the work was to include the replacing of her roof which have been leaking for some time. On Saturday I had a group of seven high school kids working with me. One of them put his foot through the ceiling in miss Annie's bedroom. The white blown in insulation which Snowdown from the footprint sized hole in the drywall snowed all over her bed. I apologize profusely and did pretty good job not blowing up at our poor volunteer. We finished the day out demolishing a section of the roof over the porch. We install the blue tarp over the portion that was open and told Miss Annie that we would return to work on Tuesday morning. Today, Monday, was to have been my day off and I had scheduled a workday at another non-Habitat project. I realized that I needed a table saw that was in the trailer at Miss Annie's house. I went there to pick it up about 9 o'clock in the morning. When I got there I was met by miss Annie's granddaughter. She told me that during the night with the wind and rain that the rest of miss a nice bedroom ceiling had collapsed on the bed fortunately for everyone involved Miss Annie had gotten up and moved to the living room couch just in the nick of time. I called my boss Brandon and agreed that we should meet at the home to make a plan. When he arrived we talked with Miss Annie and calmed her down, apologized profusely and said about to clean up the mess that we had made. Our 4 Mennonite friends joined this also and we divided in Concord with to going with Brandon on the roof and to with me to clean up and in reinstall new drywall on the bedroom ceiling. Once the drywall was installed and first coat of joint compound installed also we doing the single installing party on the roof above. We completed the installation of the shingles almost up to the ridge and got to a point where if it does rain it shouldn't be an issue. Jenna and I will go there tomorrow and put the second coat of joint compound on the ceiling. We will also install the porch ceiling. On Wednesday are men like you will return and we will hit the roof hard. And that's how I spent my day off today. Someone once said that if you want to give God a chuckle you should make a plan.

Hi Peter, Sue says you have to be flexible or you will break, sounds like God had another test of your flexibility. Sue and I plan to see you the first two weeks of January. Have a Merry Christmas. Lavern

God bless you answering this call to serve. He needs many more of us to be on the front line - doing His work of helping others daily. Keep on keeping on. Merry Christmas to you and all at Habitat.
