Peyzac-le-Moustier, Aquitaine, France
After breakfast, we all squeezed into the minivan for the short ride to La Roque Sainte-Christophe. This is the site of cave dwellings that were first inhabited 55,000 years ago but were extensively used in the Middle Ages. They occupy five levels almost a kilometre in length of cavities carved out by the Lezere river over the millennia. In various places, replicas have been constructed to show how things might have looked in earlier times. These dwellings provide a well protected site against attacking armies and invading hordes.

Afterwards, we made a quick run to the supermarket to stock up on essential items (like toilet paper!) before heading out to lunch at La Source restaurant in nearby Tursac . (The chef of this restaurant will be catering a meal for the twelve adults in my family next Wednesday at Le Manoir, hopefully outside in the garden.)

The weather was a bit unsettled (we had a number of thunderstorms during the night) so we started off with a glass of white wine on the terrace and then moved inside for the meal itself. The chef and his wife are originally from Holland and were excellent hosts. The chef came out of the kitchen on a number of occasions to talk to us. (He was a personal chef to Dave Nichols (President's Choice) back in the late 1980's for six months). The meal was excellent and focussed on local foods, particularly goose and duck products.

We broke our current record for long lunches since this one lasted over three hours. Once again we cancelled our plans for the afternoon. Some of us decided to lounge around the pool again while others went for a walk to work off some of the lunch. We all felt quite lethargic after our meal and many glasses of excellent wine.

Looks like you are having a great time in spite of a few set backs along the way. You are eating yourselves out of shape. You all have some exercising to do later. As they said on our Rhine River cruise, you don't go to Europe to lose weight.
