Biking near Sarlat and Farewell Dinner

Peyzac-le-Moustier, Aquitaine, France
Sally was feeling somewhat better this morning but Anne had a sore throat so four of us, Sally, Karen, Greg and I decided to go biking. Darlene and Ted joined us for the drive to Sarlat where we dropped them off to meander around the town and go to a cafe for a couple of hours. The rest of us drove another five minutes to a car park where the bike rental company had agreed to meet us with our bikes at 10:00am. After 15 minutes, they had not arrived so I phoned them and they told me they were running late. They finally arrived at 10:30am.

Once we had our bikes, we set out on the trail, a disused railway line that has been converted into a paved bike path . We thought we would be warm enough without sweaters but it turned out to be colder than we expected for two reasons: the path was covered with a tree canopy for most of the the way and the first thirty minutes was downhill so we didn't need to pedal!

We told the bike rental guy to pick us up at 12:15pm so we had about 100 minutes. Since we were going downhill, we decided to cycle for 40 minutes and allow 60 minutes for the return trip. As it turned out, we ended up returning 15 minutes ahead of schedule so we must have been cycling faster uphill than we were coasting downhill!

We then met up with Darlene and Ted in Sarlat and had a coffee with them in a cafe. We then returned to Le Manoir and picked up Anne before heading out for lunch in Saint-Leon-sur-Lezérè.

We ate at the Auberge du Pont, sitting in a delightful terrace under a vine-covered trellis. Lunch took about two hours and the food was excellent. Quelle surprise!

The rest of the afternoon was spent packing or, on in the case of Anne and me, stocking up the fridge for the arrival of the first members of my family later this evening. (They will be tired since they will have been traveling for 24 hours with a seven hour time difference).

Sally, Ted , Darlene, Greg and Karen went out for dinner in Rouffignac at the Renaissance Restaurant while Anne and I remained at Le Manoir awaiting the new arrivals.
