It was a speedy exit from the ship as we were up about 6:30 AM and went to breakfast on the Lido deck and got our items to carry off the ship and went to the meeting place. Then about 8:15 we were heading off the ship to get our luggage and check it into a luggage storage place in Pacific Place where the cruise ships dock. It all went smoothly and then we were in Vancouver. Our train did not leave for Seattle until 5:30 pm so we had time to look around.
Started out with a Starbucks for me and a walk along the sea wall in downtown Vancouver
. It was a pleasurable walk, a little cool and with a few sprinkles but enjoyable views of Vancouver and the dock area. We then headed down Robson street which is filled with shops, cafes and coffee shops. We stopped to browse a little and stopped for needed break at Time Hortons to rest and connect to the Internet.
We also made a visit to the Vancouver Art Gallery to see an exhibit from Glasgow Scotland called Heaven & Earth Italian Paintings from Glasgow Museums. The original museum collection was from a collector who collected works from the 1500 to the 1800s but has been expanded to include pieces from the 1400s to the 1900s. It was an enjoyable stop. Not sure I fully appreciate all the iconography that is part of the paintings but I do enjoy the art and enjoy a chance to see traveling exhibits. You get to see a much wider range of art and artist than you ever can in one museums collection. It is one reason we are members of the Portland Museum they have so many more exhibits of European masters than the Seattle Museum which seems to like contemporary or modern exhibits more. It also give Marge and I to take a train ride to Portland and have an enjoyable get away.
Other than that we pretty much just walked around got lunch, tried to find a place selling magazine for Christina (Chapters in downtown Vancouver had closed ) and taking a break at Starbucks. We got our baggage before the storage place closed at 4 pm and took a taxi to the train station. We were glad we got there over an hour early as people were already lining up and boarding started at 4:30 earlier than I suspected with time leaving the station was 5:30 pm. I had forgot the time to get through customs. Anyways the Amtrak ride was smooth and enjoyable and gave me time to finish the last three entries of the trip blog.
