The day started with a lovely breakfast and as all the guests sat around one table we got talking. One lady was English but living with her husband in Germany. She came back to visit her mother and enjoy a riding holiday as she used to do as a kid here at the Vine. The other couple were using one of the services to take their bags from place to place. They were taking a few days walk after a family event in London and were from the States. We ended up meeting this couple 3 or 4 times over the today and tomorrow.
The hike started real easy from Stanton with a lovely trail through smooth fields
. We saw our first cows up close in a field we passed through. We made good time to Stanway and thought of getting a taxi to Winchcombe but decided to trek on more but on the country roads. Cindy's ankle and knee were bothering her and we decided the roads would be better. A couple had mentioned after the first stretch out of Stanton the Cotswold Way got rough with steep grades.
While the road way was probably shorter and easier we had a rough day as we were all tiring out. We were all very glad to see the sign welcoming us to Winchcomb. It is rather spread out so we had a bit of a walk to our B&B The Wesley House and were glad to get there. As we took the roads we made it to town by 2 pm and after a short rest went to Sudley Castle a key spot for Christina to see. She was glad we made it in time to have a long visit.
Had a nice lunch at the Castle before touring the open rooms and the gardens. The owner still lives there with her family so only some of Sudley Castle is open. After the Castle we headed to our B&B for rest before dinner at a Pub and touring the town a little. We have enjoyed this whole hike having lunches at the cafes connected to the larger homes and dinner at the pubs. Maybe not gourmet food but all good at not to bad a price.
Wesley House was more an Inn than a B&B being above a pub but it was in an older building and the rooms were nice and being close in town was also very nice.
