Looks Like We Made It..........

San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico
November 1st dawned bright and sunny as we headed south to the border.  Tim was a bit anxious as he really hates border crossings and this was totally new.  The border crossing was uneventful and kind of anticlimactic.  We made the stop at Km 21 to get our tourist visas and vehicle permit. We lucked out, having a really nice young man help us at the banco, even doing our photocopy of our visa for us.  That meant we didn't have to go get our copy and get back in line.  That took about an hour and we were off.  It reminded us a lot of Ecuador, especially the smells of the bbq on the side of the road.  We knew we had a long drive so unfortunately no stopping.
We continued our trek south to San Carlos.  Disappointed that our gps map wasn't reading Mexico, but our paper map was our friend.  We did have an idea of what to expect as we chatted with several friends who drive through Mexico every year. Despite the "mucha construccion" we arrived safe and sound, just hot and tired.  It was low 30's when we got here.
After a brief turn around we found the rental agency, collected our keys.  A bit confusing to get through the intersection that leads to the condo, but we arrived!  We met Alejandro and Victor, our maintenance people.  They offered to help us unpack, but we deferred the major packing until the next morning (we did use their assistance!).  We also met our downstairs neighbours, Milly and Craig, and their dog Abbey.  We joined them for supper and hit them up for some local info.
In typical Fath fashion, we did our "condo clean".  Having both anal retentive personalities helps for this portion.  Also we are experiencing typical Fath luck.  Our fridge isn't working properly, and we were supposed to get a new one on Friday.  Might be Monday............. and............we are having some water issues in the condo.  We had no water pressure for showers yesterday and today was worse.  No showers at all.  We were lucky enough to get some laundry done and the condo cleaned, but currently however, no water.  We're all using pool water to flush!  Good thing we stalked up on water yesterday when we did a bit of shopping.  Didn't do too much as the fridge is an issue............although a guy did show up to measure for a new one today.........keep your fingers crossed.
Either way it is in the high 20's, low 30's for the next several days, we have a sea and pool available and plenty of restaurants.  The condo is comfortable, with an amazing view of the marina.  It has been fun watching the boats come and go -- good thing we are early risers!  Today we were lucky enough to be given a fresh dorado (mahi mahi is the name you might recognize) caught that morning by our neighbors!  Grilled on the George Forman grill!  Awesome.......life is good!
