A Kayaking We Will Go

San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico
There are a plethora of things to do here in San Carlos.  You can be crazy busy or a big couch patato, depending on your desires.  We are trying for somewhere in between.  So far we have joined the golf course and the baseball group.  We have met some great people at both activities.  The ladies and men's golf leagues have been very welcoming and the ball group is a lot of fun.  Both groups are an interesting mix of people.
Friday the 24th, we skipped out on our ball to take a kayaking trip to El Colorado, a nearby ejido.  In Mexico, an ejido is the communal land of a village, usually assigned in small parcels to the villagers to be maintained by the people with government support.  The ejido of El Colorado is comprised of eight families, although there are more houses owned by families that have moved away.  There is no water or power in the ejido.  They support themselves via fishing and shrimping, as well as Eco tourism.
We were able to join the group that goes to El Colorado at least twice per month.  The scenery is spectacular.  The day was perfect as the water was calm and there was just enough of a breeze to keep you comfortable.  There is a group of sea lions that have taken up residence just north of the ejido.  It was so cool to be up close to them.  Would have loved to get into the water.  Next time we will wear our wetsuits - too cold to be in without!
We were lucky enough to be invited to Tim's great aunt Doris's for a disappointing Grey Cup viewing. They were ready to get rid of their red shirts after the game!
The Softball group held a beach party on Wednesday at a beach close to us.  Lots of laughs and snacks.  Even a bonfire to roast hot dogs - nothing better.  Great place to have get together.
Today was the Christmas Bazaar for Rescate.  Rescate is the local emergency response and ambulance service here in San Carlos.  They operate with donations from the local community.   Rescate owns three ambulances and has a new purpose-built infirmary which includes four well equipped emergency first-aid treatment rooms. They also have an urgent/emergency care facility and are staffed by EMT's and first responders.  Quite the excellent program.  Hopefully we scored on the raffle tickets!  Sue did score on some shopping though.
We had a beautiful sunset tonight as we had a cloudy day and a bit of rain.  Really only a bit, just enough to spot your windows!  Tomorrow we are joining some friends to head to Empalme for their market.  We also hear it is the place to buy shrimp!

I'm envious! Wondering what you prefer as of this particular moment - Ecuador or Mexico!

Looks like an amazing experience. Enjoy every day. How does the golf compare to Sundre. I realize its probably a little "rustic" but is it an enjoyable round?

Beware of Sea Lions. They are for the most part friendly but they can bite, especially males. The bite can become infected.
