First of all we wish everyone a wonderful 2018. As we know, life is forever changing, adding challenges and joys. It is up to us to make the most of everything. For all our friends who are facing changes, our thoughts are with you.
We are lucky to have made some great friends here and some new found family. We had many invitations for the holidays. There is a long standing Christmas Eve tradition here in San Carlos, sponsored by the Yacht Club. This year there were 12 participating boats in the "Boat Parade". It really is quite the spectical. These boats go all out, adding generators to power the plethora of lights they use. We had a few invites that evening so managed to get some great eats and views of the parade. Also, in fine Mexican tradition there were many fireworks decorating the sky.
Christmas Day was rather quiet, although we did venture out and played nine holes with some friends. We were invited to partake in Christmas dinner with Tim's great Aunt Doris, her family and friends. Several helpings of turkey were had by all. Not to mention Christmas pudding and pecan pie! It was very lovely to be included and welcomed by this wonderful group.
New Year's Eve was actually very quiet. After much deliberation we decided to stay off the roads and watch the fireworks from our balcony. The Mexican people really do love their fireworks and they were launched throughout the night. January 1 is a Mexican holiday so many of the restaurants closed early to let their staff celebrate with family. In Mexico, as well as most of Latin America, there are several New Years traditions. They are pretty interesting, and for the most part fun to do. Here is a link detailing the traditions. You can guess which ones.
January 1 was the Hangover Tournament at the golf course. We had great partners, Mary Spalding and her husband Reg Jewett, but alas, no winnings for us. Much laughter and fun was had on the course though. It was followed by a nice meal and some door prizes. Sue was lucky and won a bottle of wine. Not sure what she will do with that!
Just after New Years we had friends from Sundre, Lucy and Harry Assun, stop and spend a night on their way to Puerto Vallarta. We had a great visit and got them on their way early the next morning. We thank them for the beverages and the Callebaut chocolates!
We have been staying busy with golf, ball, kayaking and meeting up with friends. We have been invited to participate in beer can horse races with some friends at the Totonaka RV Park. Sue was busy being crafty, getting our horse ready to participate. We will let you know how that goes!
