First day of Gaudi

Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain and Canary Islands
We started early today with a metro ride and walk to Park Guell, Gaudi's park built in the early 1900s. It was originally designed to be the central park area of a modern housing complex, with the park open to the people of Barcelona. the housing complex was never completed, with only two houses built there (neither by Gaudi), one of which became Gaudi's home for the rest of his life (until he was run over by a tram in 1926 and taken to hospital as a "pauper" as no-one recognised him!)

The park is a beautiful and fanciful collection of sculptures and architecture, surrounded by a nice garden area . You need to check out the photos to really appreciate it.

After a morning at the park we headed to the beach, stopping along the way for coffee in the upmarket shopping area.

It was Jed's choice for dinner, so he and Heidi spent some time on the internet finding the best paella place in Barcelona - and it was really good! It was mixed meat and seafood, complete with baby squid and huge prawns.
