Shanghai, Shanghai, China
This city has over 23 million people. That is a higher population than the state of New York! The construction here is impressive as well. This is what the US must have looked like in the 50's with all the road construction and modernization. When one retires, they spend their time in the parks. Dancing, playing cards, flying kites, doing tai chi, or singing to mention a few activities. We went to an area where the French used to occupy between 1840 and 1930.

We were treated to a sword lesson and a fan lesson by a lovely couple in the park . All 26 of us lined up and tried some of the moves. We were quite the spectical. Tim demonstated his sword swallowing skills. After our lesson, we were free to wander around and Tim and I joined in for a cha cha and foxtrot. One Chinese woman watching, gave us the thumbs up. Phew!

Next we went to Old Shanghai, which has buildings over 400 years old. A beautiful garden and throngs of shops and tourists. We shopped in the Government store and ventured out for lunch on our own. Tim and I went to the second story of a restaurant that was a giant buffet. (I know, you all know how I detest buffets, but I survived) Other than Linda and Teresa, we were the only westerners. We chose some great options and had a wonderful lunch.

Some of us were dropped off at the tallest building, the Shanghai Financial Center in Shanghai We opted to go to the 87th floor of the Park Hyatt with the Sternkes for a cocktail vs the tourist option to the 100th floor. Good call! It wasn't very crowded, as tying to find the entrance one needs an escort. Once you arrive to the 87th floor, we needed to go through a secret sliding door to access the bar. It was like an obstacle course with wine at the end!

Our next adventure was to a fantastic dim sum restaurant, Din Tai Fung and then to an acrobatic show. We have not gone hungry, not to mention the food has been fabulous. The talent at the show was outstanding. They can twist their bodies into pretzels while riding bicycle and spinning plates. I'm lucky if I can walk and chew gum and tie my shoes. Cirque de Soliel without nets! As is everything with Disney, we were treated to an exclusive after show meet and photo op with the leads in the show.

We ended the night at the roof top bar overlooking the lights of the city. Shanghai is beautiful.
