Hello all
Our cruise ship arrived in Vancouver early Saturday morning and of course it was raining! So rather than walking 800 metres with our luggage to the hotel, we had to queue for an 90 minutes to catch a cab
. But hey that's travelling isn't it. So after dumping our luggage at our downtown apartment we hit the streets in the drizzle and rain. We walked thru Gastown which was he original Vancouver downtown and it has been restored. Its now a bit of a tourist trap but certainly good fun to wander thru. Its a bit like Sydney's Rocks district but more interesting.
We had a minor issue with our apartment. The water for the building failed and it didn't get repaired until around 8 pm. And we had no guarantees that it was going to be fixed that day at all. Just think about that. No showers no toilets and no water in the sink!! So we were fortunate it was working by 8.Walking around downtown Vancouver you could be forgiven for thinking that Starbucks is working on world domination. It seems that there is a Starbucks at every block. I don't mind the Tall Peppermint Latte. The next day fine, meaning it wasn't raining, and it was the day we had our guided bicycle tour. So the four of us and our guide travelled for 6 hours and covered 30 klms and lots and lots of stops for commentary
. Thanks for the recommendation Peter Tanwan. Vancouver is a very bike friendly city. If you say "bike" here the locals will assume motor bike. We rode all over the CBD and through Stanley Park. It was very good thing to do and we got good understanding of Vancouver's history. In the afternoon we were very touristy and took the free shuttle bus to the Capilano Suspension Bridge. I admit our main motivation was to see how Linda handled the bridge seeing she has a small height problem. Sadly Linda handled it well. :(Vancouver is a great place and we could have easily spent another few days here. We don't particularly want to travel and see large cities but Vancouver was interesting. I guess the bike ride tour with the stories hooked us in. And also maybe it could because we found a geocache here!!
I need to go back and review my Influenza A situation. A couple of you, including my mother!!, cast some doubt on the extent of the illness. In fact the term "man flu" was mentioned, Marita.Perhaps the fact that the cruise ship charged me $500 for treatment and drugs may support my case??? Even a little bit??
The next day was the start of our Rocky Mountaineer train trip.Talk more soon.
:) Baz
