Beautiful Banff

Banff, Alberta, Canada
Hello all
Yesterday was spent getting to know Banff. The maximum temp was 9 deg. We took the gondola to the top of Sulphur mountain and as the day was sunny and it had snowed the day before, it was a magical place to be.    Banff is a tourist town but it still feels authentic. Sandy and I were last here in 2001 and other than more large hotels and the Brewster's company taking over every tourist attraction, it still feels homie and comfortable. Late in the afternoon we went swimming at the hot springs. Not many of us have super model bodies. I will just leave it at that. :)
Today was a more physical day with a 5 klm hike at Johnston Canyon and a smaller walk at Silverton Falls. Perhaps this is a definition of irony. For days now our eyes have been glued looking for a glimpse of a bear and still to no avail. The walk at Johnston Canyon is very popular and so there are lots of people around. Its quite a different thing at Silverton Falls. Its a short walk but we four were the only people there. Suddenly the idea of coming across a bear takes on a whole new meaning. There was savage debate about the rightness or wrongness of doing the walk. I assure you we stayed in a huddle for the whole walk. And of course there was no bear. hmmm.
Tomorrow is our guided walk to the Plain of Six Glaciers above Lake Louise.
Good night all.
Baz and Sand.
