It started with a disapointment...

Jasper, Alberta, Canada
Hello all.
We got up bright and early, 8 am !! then had a quick breakfast finished by 9:15 !! and hurried of to the Jasper iconic Edith Cavell Meadows Hike . I have been really looking forward to this walk as you can see the Angel Glacier from the best view. It is an 8 klm circuit walk with a reasonable altitude gain. Alas we arrived to the start to find that the whole place has been shutdown for maintenance until next year. We couldn't even get to see the glacier from a bad angle. Disappointed!!. So our alternative was to complete the Malign Canyon walk. 7 klm round trip. It ended up being a wonderful hike. No bears. :(
The excitement for the day was to notice that piles of cars were parking in crazy places on the highway near town. So being sticky beaks we stopped and had a look. It was a family of Elk. So photo time along with the other 30 people standing beside us. The male was sitting on a hill overlooking his harem and looking rather pleased with him self.
Later in the day we drove to and from Medicine and Malign lakes. Nice drive.
We are planning to have Elk for dinner tonight. Yum.
Talk tomorrow.
