Lyon Day 1

Lyon, Rhône-Alpes, France
Lyon turned out to be quite a nice and beautiful city with lots of interesting and unusual landmarks and monuments.
We spend most of the day exploring the historical Lyon on foot; walked from one end to another; climbed miles of stairs up and down the two main hills: "Praying Hill", filled with churches and various religious institutions (like Lyon's Catholic College) and topped with a magestic white four-towered Notre Dame and "Working Hill", historical home of silk workers, crazy artists and left-wing activists.

From Jules :)
Yep, Lyon turned out to be really great. One needs several days to fully discover it, but we will try to cover most of the ground in the 2 days that we have.
Very nice and diverse buildings (unlike Paris where they are charming, but all alike), no such crowds as in Paris, and much cleaner, too. As well, public transportation is nicer here: more space inside the buses/trams, cleaner and much newer than the capital's, almost no graffity and vandalization...
Turns out, we live next to two ex-prisons :))) The prisons just closed this past April.
The hotel is excellent!!! 3 stars for the same price as the 2-star one we had in Paris, very nice & modern shower, free internet in the room (this is why we were able to start writing updates! :) )...
Food is really expensive here, as it is in other places we've been to. Had dinner with some traditional lyonnaise dishes at a place which was not cheap, but the waiters behaved as if it were a fast food place.
The French look different here than the parisians - interesting! The parisians are all skinny, with 'noble' facial features, dressed fashionably, with dark hair... The lyonnaises are sometimes blonde, more heavy-built, with more rustic features. Maybe, because of the closeness to the Alps, they started looking like the Swiss? :)
