Today we took a 9am train to Edinburgh, but we stopped at the city of Stirling for a few hours. Stirling is a charming little city, it used to be a capital of Scotland. It is built around a magnificent castle, which once served as a royal residence. We dropped off our luggage at a bus station not far from the train station where we arrived and took a stroll around the city. Most buildings in Stirling's old town look medieval and cobbled roads contribute to the city's charm. We took a guided tour around the castle, which was very informative, then walked back to the train station to catch a train to Edinburgh.
I must note that the train system in Scotland is as nice and efficient as its British counterpart
. Trains are clean, fast and run on schedule. You can use the same ticket to hop off a train in the middle of a journey and then hop back on another train going in the same direction.
When we arrived to Edinburgh, we tried to find a Tourist Information office for directions to our hotel, but it was already closed. So we had to ride a taxi, but it wasn't too expensive. We had a dinner in a nice local pub with lively Scottish music, played by 4 violins, 2 guitars and some sort of a banjo.

Have you had a chance to hear musicians play the traditional Valinka?

Only 1 guy. But bagpipes are not the most traditional instrument, the traditional Celtic music is played on fiddle and guitar :)
