Edinburgh II

Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom
We continued exploring Edinburgh today. While walking to the old city, we strayed off the beaten path and took a glimpse of the actual residential neighborhoods, where the actual residents of Edinburgh live. We ended up at the bottom of the Royal Mile and walked past the Parliament and Holyrood castle again. On the way up the Mile, we visited most of the sites, mentioned in our guidebook (by Rick Steeves, of course!). When we finally got to the top of the Mile, we toured Edinburgh castle, it was really interesting! It contains the oldest building in Edinburgh - the chapel dedicated to St. Margaret, built in the beginning of the 12th century. It also provides magnificent views of the city (see below). One of the most important things about the castle is that it houses Scottish Crown Jewels and the Stone of Scone, used for coronation of British monarchs!
In the evening we tried to find some live music, but had no luck with it: some pubs didn't have any music that night, others had a band playing jazz or blues or something, but not the traditional Scottish music, one pub was supposed to have a band, but they didn't show up ... So, after a while, we gave up and went back to the hotel to pack.
