Copenhagen overview tour

Copenhagen, Zealand, Denmark
After a long long night on the trains, we woke up around noon and left the hotel in a couple of hours. We were planning to go on a self-guided tour (described in my book by Rick Steves), but first we had to had some lunch. Walking to the city hall, we found an interesting-looking cafe, which turned out to be a part of the Design Society and they had so many cool things, from salt and pepper shaker to furniture, all cute, colourful, minimalist and functional. We took tons of pictures right there in the cafe ^__^
Then we finally made it to the city hall (which has a nice little park in the middle with a bear fountain and people having picnics). Around the city there are: a statue of H. C. Andersen, a building with golden weather girls (one on a bicycle means sunny, one with umbrella means rainy, also there's a thermometer with a scale from -25 to +25), a fountain with funny little dragon and a bull fighting a big dragon, a statue of two vikings blowing a huge curved horn, and tons of tourists, street performers, pickpockets and so on.
After the city hall we walked along the main pedestrian street (called Strøget) lined with shops, cafes and filled with crowds of tourists. We also took a number of side trips to see various churches, tiny streets, cafes, a round tour, monuments, etc. We also tried a local specialty, a Danish hot dog called pølse, it was kinda interesting, but not something I need to try again :)
During the walking tour we also saw huge department stores such as Illums Bolighus, Magasin du Nord, and the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Factory.
In the end of the day we arrived to the extremely colourful Nyhavn, an old sailor quarters neighbourhood turned into an entertainment district. The streets were bustling with people eating and drinking at the numerous pubs and cafes and sitting along the canals, a couple of dudes were yelling songs in Russian, tourist boats were coming and going next to the old wooden historic boats moored along the canal, it was an exciting place!
We sat down to an overpriced dinner at one of the restaurants, then walked back to the hotel along a dark canal.
