Ninilchik, Alaska, United States

Campground: Scenic View:  After our wonderful visit here yesterday, we moved up the road, and it really lives up to the name. It's a "million dollar view with “million dollar" owners-- Bob and Brenda. Spent the entire afternoon and evening with them. Bob even showed us his several “secret” paths.
Bob and Brenda treat you like family and have created that kind of camp atmosphere. What wonderful scenery and wonderful people—one of the highlights of our trip! Best RV park in Alaska!

Sat up on the tree chair admiring the view across the water of Mt. Redoubt and Mt. Illiana, both volcanoes where you could see steam coming out. Also a perfect place for watching eagles and seeing the fishermen pulling their nets. Bob had us jump in his Kawasaki Mule and gave us a tour of the upper bluff. Bob smokes salmon and brought over some for us to try, and Brenda made a dip for chips--chopped clams, cilantro, onions, lime juice. Wow, were they great!
Drove back to Angler RV to get our halibut (wasn’t quite frozen this morning). Saw a moose and 2 babies right by the side of the highway; wouldn’t you know we didn’t have our camera. The moose was still there on our way back so we grabbed the cameras out of the RV and went back.  Stopped along the shoulder of the road for quite a while but didn’t see the babies again. Got some good pictures of the mother.
There are picnic tables and a barbecue grill in the middle of the campground.  Grilled some of the halibut we caught—one piece plain; one with mayonnaise and parmesan cheese (Brenda told us about this). We liked the mayo one the best. Brenda grilled a red salmon and put 3 different toppings on it. Ended up with a nice little buffet.
Two other men arrived that afternoon and found out they grew up in Birch Run, Michigan. One of the men now lives in AuGres, Michigan--two doors away from Farol & George (mom’s best friends). Most people have never even heard of AuGres because it’s so tiny. Can’t believe we ended up in the same place--what a small world!!
Everyone sat around the campfire that Bob made and then watched the sun go behind the mountain (around 11:15). Changing to this campground was one of the best moves ever!
