Glennallen to Valdez

Valdez, Alaska, United States
Wrangell-St. Elias National Park Visitor Center is a short drive from Glennallen so that was our first stop. They have quite a few ranger talks and walks each day, and we plan to do this after Valdez. Students were working on a fishwheel exhibit.

Many people told us the drive to Valdez was their favorite, and we can certainly see why. Even with the smoky haze, the views were stunning—wildflowers, rivers, mountains, so many glaciers. WOW!! Even saw two trumpeter swans.
Took tons of pictures through the front window (thank goodness for a digital camera!).
Especially spectacular were: Tonsina River, Worthington Glacier (the views constantly change as you drive), Thompson Pass, Bridal Veil Falls, Horsetail Falls, Keystone Canyon.
Campground: Eagles Rest RV.  Very nice well maintained campground. Surrounded by mountains, even a view of a huge waterfall.
Quite a bit cooler here and very windy.
Staying here for a week, and our TN friends are camped next to us. Yea, sharing meals (she's a wonderful cook), and lots of fun playing games in the evenings.
