Charleston, South Carolina, United States
Oak Plantation Campground - 3 nights
Bowen Island Road: enjoyed a scenic drive.
                                                 CHARLESTON
Downtown
: about half hour drive from campground. Drove there both days.
Visitor Center--movie Forever Charleston.
Walking Tour: followed the one in AAA tour book: Great houses. Really liked the 3 Meeting Street Inn.
Historic Area: drove through admiring the houses.
White Point Garden: nice walk through the historic waterfront park on the Charleston Battery. Numerous cannons, many monuments, pretty flowers and gazebo pavilion.
Charleston City Market: Went through entire market. Interesting history, wonderful artists/craftspeople, and food.
Fort Sumpter Tour:  Ferry to the national monument. The first shots of the Civil War were fired on this fort. The 34-hour battle that ensued would result in defeat for the Union and turn Fort Sumter into a symbol of Southern resistance. National Park Rangers greeted guests and provided an overview of the island. Learn about the military history of the island while appreciating stunning views of Patriots Point & downtown Charleston
Ate at:
Bubba Gumps
: garlic shrimp was the best; also bread pudding with vanilla sauce.
Justine's Kitchen: tried the fried chicken and pecan crusted chicken breast. Fried chicken definitely better.
Wanted to eat at Hominy Grill, but it was closed. Ended up in the college area and just ate at Moe's.
Have visited Charleston before and it's always a great place to come.
