St. Augustine, Florida, United States
North Beach Campground - 2 nights
Good location 4.5 miles north of historic St. Augustine
Finally visiting the nation's oldest city, and we've lived in Florida a long time.
                                           HISTORIC DISTRICT
Spanish Bakery for cinnamon buns; they were just ok. Looking forward to fresh bread, but it wasn't ready yet.
Red Train Trolley Tour:  1-hour comprehensive nonstop  tour of historic downtown with narration.
Columbia, a traditional Spanish restaurant, for lunch:  Randy: palamia steak (not as good as ElSaboney in the Keys); Lois: mahi mahia cuban sandwich, just ok.
Self-walk tour to see some of the historical buildings:
Gardens of the Lightner Museum, which is housed in the former Alcazar Hotel built in 1888.
Flagler College housed in what was once one of Henry Flagler's most opulent Gilded-Age hotels in St. Augustine.
Memorial Presbyterian Church whose design was based on the Basilica of St Mark in Venice Italy.
St George Street shops.
Castillo de San Marcos Tour. Built between 1671-72 the large Spanish stone fortress is the oldest masonry fort in the continental US.
Thoroughly enjoyed the visit here. Somehow we never do the tourist sights in our own state.
