drive: Lindis Pass > QUEENSTOWN

Queenstown, Otago, New Zealand
Weather is so perfect decided to head to Queenstown, then Milford Sound.
**Another scenic drive:
Lindis Pass area hilly, winding road through a dramatic reserve with high black mountains. Foreboding looking.
Along pretty blue Lake Dunstan to Cromwell.
Went to I-Site (information center): booked 3-pack tour of Doubtful, Milford, TeAnu Glo Worm Caves. (Did this because she said Queenstown was getting full.)
Got groceries & gas.
Between Cromwell and Queenstown, the road snakes its way along the spectacular Kawarau Gorge. Narrow, twisty, drop-dead gorgeous drive!
(150 years ago, this an area was bustling with gold miners seeking their fortune)
Stopped at Roaring Meg to take pictures. Saw Shotover Jet Boat ride zooming though the gorge. Definitely have to do this.
Gibsonton Valley Winery for wine tasting. Bought bottle of Riesling--Gibbston Valley Central Otago Late Harvest Riesling 2006 (good with cheese or desert wine).
QUEENSTOWN CREEKSYDE TOP 10 - 2 nights.
Nice grassy sites. About 5-min walk to the town center. Good place to watch the activities on the mountain: gondola, para-gliders.
Queenstown is a beautiful town on the shores of the South Island’s Lake Wakatipu, set against the dramatic Southern Alps. Renowned for adventure sports, there are a variety of activities. Made reservations for the Shotover Jet Boat ride on the Kawarau Gorge that we saw on our drive here.
Wonderful harbor and shopping areas. Great spot to get some walking poles since there are lots of outdoor sports stores. Found what we liked at Outdoor Sporting Goods.
Back to the camper to make dinner. First time we used the grill on the stove. Burnt the top of the meat pies--one caught on fire. Oops!
