From Kerikeri, a short drive north to the Puketi Forest Kauri Walk. After going part way down a very bad dirt road, turned around since there were no signs how far it would be. Continued heading to the far north coast.
Drove around Whaigaroa Bay, which was especially nice.
Lots of stops along Doubtless Bay drive:
~Mangonui famous for the Fish Shop located right on the water. The flight attendants told us about their Fish-n-Chips. Really Fantastic! Fun place to browse through the shops.

~Cooper's Beach: Thoroughly enjoyed a walk along this wide sandy beach lined with pohutukawa trees.
~Cable Bay had sand that looked pink. Loved watching the huge curling waves create spray high into the air. Very black sky out at sea. Kids having a great time body surfing.

Awanui: Ancient Kauri Kingdom to see the staircase carved in the middle of a massive ancient kauri log. You can actually climb it. They built the shop around the staircase tree. Interesting history about the discovery of these ancient trees preserved in a swamp bog for for 45,000-50,000 years. Growth rings determined the tree was 1,087 years old when it fell.
Many remarkable carved-wood items for sale. Watched the carvers working through large glass windows in the showroom. Wood carvings unique to the country we are visiting are one of our favorite travel souveniers. Bought a kiwi-size egg made from 45,000 year old Kauri tree. Anyone that appreciates quality wood carving will love this place.

NINETY MILE BEACH TOP 10 HOLIDAY PARK
Arrived late in the day. Great location near the start of 90 Mile Beach. Very easy walk from the park to the beach. Talked to family from Auckland that were looking for tuatua shell (looked like our clam shell). Went back to the camper for a bucket, searched the sand with our toes and dug up about 10 clams. Soaked them in sea water overnight; they spit out a lot of sand. Cooked them the next day. Not a seafood we liked much.
