Colorado City, Colorado, United States
Driving north for the next several days. No sightseeing, just quick overnight stops.
8/6:    State rd 522 out of New Mexico, to 159 in Colorado: Really bumpy until San Luis. Stations of the Cross Church impressive sitting high on the hill overlooking the town. Nice hwy after San Luis. Impressive high mountains to the north. Scenic drive with Sangre de Cristo Range all along way. Garruda Canyon, great views.  At Fort Garland, east on C-160. Huge mountains; La Veta Pass area gorgeous  At Walsenburg north on I-25. Really windy area; slowed down because of the gusts that would sway the RV.
PUEBLO, CO - Colorado City KOA
Easy on/off from I-25. Dirt/gravel roads and sites. Sites close to each other.
Talked with two ladies that just finished 8-day Colorado River rafting trip with Colorado Wilderness Co, who they highly recommend.

8/7:   Arranged to meet cousins at Bass Pro parking lot in Colorado Springs. Haven't seen them for 20-30 years. So great catching up. Breakfast across the street at Buttermilk Breakfast & Burgers. Nice outdoor patio area and great food, especially the breakfast burrito with sausage gravy biscuit.

On the road again by 1:00. Sky really smokey from fires in Washington state. Traffic slow because of construction all along I-25. Great view of Castle Rock south of Denver. Couldn't believe how much traffic, especially going through Denver, which was like a slow-moving parking lot. Even heavy traffic into the farmland areas.
CHEYENNE, WY - A.B. Camping RV Park
(stayed here in 2009) ok for overnight, easy to get to/from I-25, about a mile away. Tight turn into entrance. Dirt/gravel sites, trees. They smoke barbeque and have a small restaurant. Pork very good--tender, good smokey flavor; homemade pie delicious!

8/8:    North on I-25. Wind really whips across the grass and farmlands. Even have highway signs "Stay Vertical."  Rocky cliffs in Chugewater, which broke up the monotony of the grasslands. Not much traffic along the entire drive today. Funny seeing the huge jackalope on a hilltop near Douglas.

Cows everywhere so lots of Randy's funny "moo jokes." Driven through this area several times on various trips. One of these years, this should be the destination to spend time in Bighorn National Forest.

BUFFALO, WY - Deer Park RV Park Campground
Nice long site. Four wild turkeys in wooded area right across from us. Sat in front seats watching them. Went for walk on their trail supposedly next to a creek; mostly a field. At about 9:15 major winds! Closed the slides. Lasted hours. Weird, could hear the wind in the trees, but it didn't shake the rv. Guess because the wind was coming directly at us from the front.

Woke up to see a doe and two fawn in trees across from us. Cool!
