JOHNS LAKE TRAIL: Drove through Fish Creek Campground to get to the trailhead. Trail is through through old-growth forest of red cedars and hemlocks that surround the lake.
Didn't find a trail down to the lake, so just a peek through the trees at the lake. The shore is lined with wetland grasses.
After looking at the trail map, decided to go to lake and return since the other key sites can be seen from "Going To Sun" road. Another day with lots of smoke. Nice little morning stroll!

8/19: ROCKY POINT TRAIL is on the western shore of Lake McDonald. Trailhead is off North Fork road after driving through Fish Creek Campground. Began as soon as it got light.
Easy beginning crossing over Fern Creek, then up and down through the forested mountain to the rocky-edged lake.
The loop part went higher up the mountain with views of the lake far below. Enjoyed the tranquility of this quiet area. Headed back just when the sun started to peak out above the mountains. Only saw two other sets of hikers.

APGAR VILLAGE, which is at the south end of Lake McDonald. Cute little shops, small beach.
Stopped at Apgar Amphitheater where there is a short path to a nice beach. Great views. Fun watching the kayakers and ducks.
