Hurray, no alarm this morning. This part of Glacier does not involve Going-to-the-Sun road. North Fork Road is a good dirt road, sometimes a bit washboard, curving around the mountains, sometimes high above the North Fork River, then down right next to it.
About 1.5 hrs to get to Polebridge Mercantile.
Fresh baked goods--huckleberry bear claw (for which they are famous) & pecan sticky bun--yummy!
Glacier Drive to the Glacier Ranger Station was a horrible road: huge ruts, like being in a shaker machine. Thankfully it's a short drive from Polebridge to here. Got maps and directions.
Bowman Lake Road is a 5-mile drive to the lake. Right after turning on the road, a fox crossed right in front of us. Finally saw wildlife other than squirrels.

Bowman Lake: Parking lot pretty full, but not many people on the beach, maybe six or so.
Talked to the ranger about trails. Advised us to go on the right trail because the trail to the left around the lake had sightings of a bear with two cubs about a mile or so on the trail.
Went a little way until the trail veered inland; came back. Such a pretty, tranquil place.
Too bad so smoky; got worse again as sun got higher.
When we left, the gate was closed at Bowman Road. The sign said to close it after leaving. Wonder why. Good thing we got here in the morning. I wouldn't want to miss seeing this beautiful spot.

Took Cames Road back through the park. Pictures by the Glacier National Park sign. Great spot for this since there were no people here at all. There's always a lineup of people by the sign at West Glacier entrance.
