From Kvitebergsvatnet Lake through mountain forest with tall trees framing the road. Praying for no oncoming cars!
Fv78 to continute along Hardangerfjord. Onarheim cute town on the fjord. White wooden church from 1893. Lots of construction going through town.
Hodnanes-Jektevik Ferry dock. The entire place was empty--no people, no cars, no signs. Not sure how long until the next ferry. Luckily, came in about 15 minutes. Looked like a freighter boat.
Upper deck great for views and taking photos. Quick stop at a port with lots of little islands and boats.
By the time we docked and got off, this crossing took about an hour. E39 south.
A short drive further, a tunnel under the fjord - another first. Bøknafjord Tunnel, one of the world’s longest and deepest subsea road tunnels, 17 miles long, maximum depth of 1,286 feet below sea level. Mind Blowing!

Homland of the Viking Kings "i" stop: Ognøy island, one of the three islands that make up Bokn, considered Norway's birthplace.
- The strait Boknasund was used by sailors to sail north or south, where remains of large graves from the Bronze age are still found. These burial mounds show what a well organized community Bokn was, even then.
Avganger-Mortavika Ferry. Ten-minute wait to load; 22 minutes to cross. Headed right upstairs, the best spot for views of this very wide fjord. Quite surprised to find a cafeteria/lounge. Like being on a fjord cruise. Very helpful staff getting on/off.
Ten minutes later through Mastrafjord Tunnel, another one under the water - a mere 400' feet.
Perfect weather today in mid 60's with bright sunshine. Tunnels, lots of bridges over sparkling water. and some interesting, scenic spots. Not nearly the dramatic scenery as the previous part of the trip.

STAVANGER - MOSVANGEN CAMPING - 1 night
Nice grassy sites on a small lake. Bus Stop a few blocks walk from the campground to get to the city center.
Can't say enough about the helpfulness of the campground staff. Bus information, which stops to get on/off, and downloading an app to pay. We paid for two nights, but the next morning decided to leave the busy city. Without hesitation, they refunded our money.

OLD TOWN (Gamle) STAVENGER
Historic area dating back to the 18th century. Stavanger Cathedral, the oldest cathedral in Norway, built in 1125. Admired it from the outside since it was being refurbished.
Park area around Breiavatnet, a small lake in the middle of the city center with a lovely fountain in its center.
Harbor Square - statue of Alexander Graham Bell--why? His top hat seemed to be the birds favorite perch. The most bustling and busy area of town lined with numerous restaurants. Very crowded with the cruise ship in port. Reminded us of being in Key West with all the vendors set up in the square.
Just one street off this crazy mass of people, the entire atmosphere changed with hardly any people.
Up the hill to Valberg Tower (Valbergtårnet), city's oldest building constructed in 1850-53 as a watchmen's tower.
Zigzagged along narrow cobblestone alleys decorated with beautiful planters and bright colored doors.
Ovre Holmegate, nicknamed Fargegata - meaning ‘the color street’ Absolute favorite street with its vivid colors, wild street art, lively cafes and bars. Definitely one of Stavanger's more visited and photographed spots! Loved the lively atmosphere.
Villa 22 Trattoria & Bar for dinner along the waterfront. Expensive but good food and bread.
Now that the cruise ship left, much more enjoyable walking around the harbor.
Back to bus stop on Nygata Street. The bronze statue is Johanna and her little brother, main characters from the "Ajax" books that depicted what it was like to live in Stavanger in the 1930-40s.
Really enjoyed spending the afternoon roaming around the charming narrow streets in this picture-perfect part of Old Town.
