Wakeup call at the time you chose (6:15 for us). Having a tray of coffee, hot chocolate, bisquit/cookie brought to the room is sure a great way to start the day!
The hour drive from the lodge to Samburu National Park was always quite interesting. It goes through the lands of the culturally proud and fascinating Samburu tribe. Such friendly people always waving to us as we passed them walking down the road, herding their animals, or washing in the river.
GAME DRIVE IN SAMBURU NATIONAL PARK
Another great day with Michael and Johnathan! This is such a wonderful park; Michael always gets us so close to the animals. So much wildlife near the river.
Favorites today:
--Olive Baboons--so much fun to watching their antics, especially all the babies who were being carried on mothers' backs and stomachs

--Cheetah--right next to road lying in the shade. So funny to see people from other vehicles taking as many pictures of Johathan sitting on the truck roof as they did of the cheetah. Came back several times to check out what it might be doing--never moved.
Always enjoy seeing the birds here in Africa! However, we are not avid bird watchers that want to sit for hours waiting to see a specific bird. Saw so many birds with amazing colors!--Red-headed Kingfisher, Crested Franklin--Namagua (smallest dove), Blue-Naped Mousebird, Blackfaced Sandgrouse, Golden breasted Starling. Grey Heron
--Hoopoe Bird--so unique. Darn, couldn't get a good picture

--Bush Breakfast by river: pancakes, eggs, sausages, bacon, etc.
Never heard of Tree Tomato juice--a bland fruity taste--pretty good.
Not only is Michael a great guide, he's a great cook!

--Bull Elephant right next to the jeep; flared his ears. Guess he must not like our being this close. Thanks Michael for quickly taking my camera--our favorite elephant photo.
--Lioness - Fascinating watching her crouch and crawl when she saw some prey.
----Grant Gazelle - both male and female have horns

--Giraffes by the water; so interesting to see how they have to spread their front legs enabling them to get a drink. Two of them put on quite a show. "Necking" where two males fight for reproduction rights by slamming their necks into one another. Started by shoving each other's backside. Then flinging their long necks against each other. Never thought we'd actually get to see something like this.

Sure does get hot by noon! Nice to go back to lodge and enjoy another great Lunch--fritatta, pizza, lamb kabobs, wonderful variety of about five different salads (garden grown veggies).
Same people with the addition of a wonderful couple that live about three hours away. They came to Kenya about 40 years ago and now own a huge rose farm. Very interesting stories!

Great sightings along the path to our room:
The Dikdiks are so tiny, even smaller than the Key Deer), Red-Billed Hornbill, Agama Lizard

CAMEL WALK with Scout (guard), Hospitale (camel owner), Jonathan.
Lois asked Jonathan if they sang while walking through the woods; don't think he understood so sang "Row, row, row your boat" and motioned him to sing. The three of them sang their Samburu songs the entire rest of the way, which made this such a special experience! Randy went in the car with Michael and filmed.

Ended the camel trek at "Sundowner Hill" Another walk to the top and more great sausages.

Another fantastic Dinner--chicken, red cabbage with caramelized onions.
Great group of people--tons of laughs with lots of teasing each other.

The Genet that lives up in the rafters even came for its evening saucer of milk.
