One of the main reasons for our trip this year was to hike the Narrows.
Three years ago we were here in November; water too cold--48 degrees.
We're back to do this; water temp 63; great time.

Not good at walking on river rocks so playing it safe by renting shoes, neoprene socks, walking stick from Zion Outfitters.
Shuttle Bus to Temple of Sinawava (40 min).
Paved River Trail 1-mile.
Started walk in Virgin River Narrows at 9:00. Windy and cool at first.
In and out of the water over rocks staying close to the canyon walls when possible.

Constant picture taking along the way. Morning is perfect time for lighting up the peaks and canyon walls. Rock looked like it was sprinkled with glitter with the light reflecting off the wet wall.

Mystery Canyon Falls pretty with small trickle; took about 20 minutes to get here.
On way back, guys were repelling down this.

One spot looked like lots of people's tracks going out of river, but it was muddy and like quicksand. The mud went over my shoes, lost balance, and plopped right on my butt. Sure looked funny! Rinsed off and away we went.

Arrived at the "Y" around noon. Magnificent 1500-ft high walls!!
Went up Orderville Canyon to the first waterfall; then a short way up Wall Street.

Not many people in the morning. A group would pass us, then we'd be alone for a while. Very peaceful and enjoyable having such a remarkable place all to ourselves. The way back was another story; constant people coming and going. Randy tripped on rocks and landed on knees--trying to save the camera from getting wet--scraped up both legs. Canyon much prettier in morning than afternoon; sure glad we got started early.
Ended Narrows walk at 3:30. Took a change of shoes so we didn't walk the paved mile trail in the wet canyoneering shoes. Lots of people leave their shoes on the ledge above the steps going to the river.
This last mile was more tiring than the rest of the hike; it was near 100 degrees and mostly in the sun.
Was it worth it--you bet!!!

Oscar's patio in Springdale for dinner: quesadilla, murder burger, ribs--fantastic; turkey burger--ok.
Great evening to end the time together with our cousins!!
