                      KODACHROME BASIN
"A spectacle of sandstone chimney pillars and unique petrified springs called sand pipes rise from the valley floor in a surrealistic setting. Colors change from gray and white to shades of red depending on the day's mood."

The red color and contrast prompted a National Geographic filming expedition in 1949. Kodak Film Corporation consented to naming the park Kodachrome.

Chimney pipes appear everywhere. Nearly 70 monolithic spires jut up from the valley floor, "standing like stone sentries overlooking the park."

Escalante-Grand Staircase Monument surrounds the park; magnificent views everywhere!
