GRAND STAIRCASE-ESCALANTE NATIONAL MONUMENT
For the next month, we will be experiencing "this high, rugged, and remote region where bold plateaus and multi-hued cliffs run for distances that defy human perspective."
Cannonville Visitor Center focuses on history. Great people working here; lots of suggestions of area trails and maps. Nice exhibits depicting lives of Paiute Indians and early pioneer farmers; even a small garden.

Cottonwood Canyon Road
The section from Hwy 12 to the Kodachrome State Park turnoff is paved.
Always had to watch for cows in the road.
Frequently saw wild turkeys and lots of jack rabbits in the mornings.
Never tired of the scenic drive through this area of the Grand Staircase.
The road turns to dirt, which was in good shape to Grosvenor Arch. What a great drive up and over mountains through dry washes; only one spot had a little water. Fantastic views of colorful mountains of golds, purples, greens and views of Bryce's canyon cliffs. Storm clouds all around. Only passed a few cars coming and going. Glad we came here before the several days of rain; the road became impassable.

Grosvenor Arch
"Unique double arch that seems to float above the desert floor."
All by ourselves at this beautiful gold-color sandstone arch.
