Queen's Garden and Navajo loops trail
Early drive with sun coming up just barely highlighting mountain peaks.

Parked in Sunrise lot. The GUIDE says to hike this clockwise; rationale, easier but longer ascent; Navajo is very steep but shorter ascent. Guess it depends which you prefer. Met a couple that just hiked it both ways; recommended Navajo trail first returning by Queen's Garden because the ascent back up is more gradual, which sounded better to us.

Walked rim trail a short way over to Sunset Point then zigzagged down Navajo trail's switchbacks, through a sinister slit fittingly called Wall Street (wow spot). Walked among "spires, rocky temples and pillars arranged within a huge amphitheater of red rock that seem like they've been placed here to stimulate the imagination." How true; each formation signifies something different to each person.

Whichever direction, you trudge up the switchbacks, back and forth, continually huffing and puffing upward. Walked about 5 miles; took 4.5 hours. Lots of stopping for pictures.
