ESCALANTE PETRIFIED STATE PARK

Two Loop Trails:
Nature -- 1-mile loop (trail guide explaining numbered spots) climbing 200 feet to top of mesa.
Great views of Wide Hollow Reservoir. Balanced Rocks

***************************************************************************************************
"Trail of Sleeping Rainbows" -- .75-mile loop with a high concentration of petrified wood
Extremely steep and strenuous, but so worth doing.
Brightly colored mineralized wood and fossilized logs throughout this entire loop trail.
First experience seeing this wood turned to stone; can't believe the dazzling beauty and colors.
High on the mountain with great views of Painted Desert and Escalante.
Spent 3 hours here; so much to discover.

*************************************************************************************************
Rock Shop just before park entrance--interesting man informed us about his collection of petrified wood and rocks; nothing looked as good as the state park petrified wood.
