          BURR TRAIL ROAD
"An adventurous drive full of wonder and amazement."

The 18-mile paved road weaves around white sandstone domes, rounded Navajo buttes, crosses Deer Creek.

HISTORY:  The road started as a cattle trail to move cattle back and forth between winter and summer ranges.

Long Canyon--The descent into this spectacular, narrow canyon is along the base of the Circle Cliffs, one of the most scenic areas anywhere. Gorgeous walls shooting hundreds of feet above the road.

******************************************************************************************************
Slit Rock--beautiful, short, narrow slot with towering walls right off road next to a pull off at the beginning of Long Canyon. Fantastic spot that's easy to miss!

*********************************************************************************************************
Grand Staircase-Escalante Viewpoint
Magnificent vistas of the colorful upturned layers of the giant Waterpocket Fold!

Then through pinion forest to Capitol Reef, where the road turns to dirt.
****************************************************************************************************
Upper Muley Twist Canyon
Turned here to do the 3-mile 4-WD spur road up the canyon through dry creek beds and washes. Reached a spot with too many big rocks to keep driving; jockeyed turning around. What a drive! Late in the day so returned back up the Burr Trail Road.
