Torrey, Utah, United States
Scenic Byway 12 continuing east--Escalante to Torrey
Drove between Escalante and Boulder several times during our various sightseeing trips while staying in Escalante. Exceptionally scenic area with many overlooks to stop and admire the views. The hogsback section with its sheer drop-offs on both sides is not something we look forward to driving in the rv. Calf Creek area gorgeous with beautiful tall red cliffs.
The day we left, just outside of Escalante, a huge hawk trying to drag a large prey off road barely flew away in time. Left around 8:30; very little traffic coming from either direction.
Did fine through hogsback section with the sheer drop-offs and no shoulder--not a fun drive in the motorhome. Thankfully, very few cars in the other lane and no large vehicles.

Up 9,600 feet over Boulder Mountain/Dixie National Forest. This time of year incredible with fluttering leaves of the fire-yellow aspen trees against the dark green pines; so much color.
FACT: Boulder Mountain sits on the Aquarius Plateau, one of continent's highest timbered plateaus.
Descending off the mountain, the colored sandstone cliffs of Capitol Reef come into view with the imposing Henry Mountains in the distance.
This constantly changing, remarkable scenery is certainly something to see especially in the fall.

THOUSAND LAKES RV PARK
Site M-5--back-in on outside edge, which are longer than the middle ones.
Nice gift store in park office. Muffins available each morning; ordered a dozen; however, very dry and didn't seem fresh.
Beautiful red mountains along back of park; sunrise and sunset illuminates them. Great way to enjoy morning coffee.

Great sunshine the first couple of days. Then two days rain off/on with total clouds--no sightseeing. The weather got much cooler--70's high; 38-40 lows (burrrrr--heater going in the am). Added a few days to our stay here.
