CAPITOL REEF NATIONAL PARK
"The rugged landscape is a maze of brightly colored cliffs canyons, domes, and bridges that the Paiute Indians called 'Land of Sleeping Rainbow.' The pioneers named it for the white dome-shaped rock formations resembling the country's Capitol and the nearly impassable ridges called Reefs."
- GEOLOGY: A giant buckle in the earth's crust stretches across south-central Utah. This vast warping of rock was created 65 million years ago.

18-minute movie "Water" about the geological impact of water on the area and the development of the "Waterpocket Fold," the park's central feature extending almost 100 miles.

List of ranger led programs going on during the next week. Ranger had trail maps; have to know what you want and ask for it. Bought detailed map of area; invaluable for exploring this vast area.

Famous for their homemade pies, which are baked daily and brought here. Couldn't resist the apple & strawberry/rhubarb pies. Not that impressive; didn't hold a candle to my mom's.
