Bad thunderstorms during the night and morning until. Finally the sun came out a little.
Checked out the nearby towns:
Clarkdale: Interesting little town with copper mining history.
Tuzigoot National Monument: Visitor Center is built in a similar style to the ruins.
Good display of Indian artifacts, most of which have been found on-site.
A loop path leads to and around the ruins with Information Boards telling about the history. The cluster of buildings are on top of a small sandstone ridge close to the Verde River Valley. On the hilltop is the largest dwelling with a reconstructed ceiling plus a ladder up to the roof where there are great views.

- HISTORY: Tuzigoot means Crooked Water, referring to the prominent bend here in the Verde River. The ancient pueblo was built by Sinagua people, who were farmers and artists with trade connections that spanned hundreds of miles. Consists of 110-room ruins, the oldest rooms over 900 years old.
Cottonwood Historic Old Town: Picturesque Historic Old Town with buildings that lend to the old west atmosphere. The beautiful Verde River lines with Cottonwood trees runs through the town.
- HISTORY: In the early 1900's, Cottonwood was known to have the best bootlegging booze within hundreds of miles. By 1920, it was called the ‘Biggest Little Town in Arizona’ because there were so many businesses compared to the small population.
Bocci for tapas (stuffed salmon shells and deviled eggs; meatballs; crab cakes, crostini) and pizza--excellent food
Pretty reflections on mountains driving home.
