Camp Verde, Arizona, United States
Drove from Page to Camp Verde
DISTANT DRUMS RV PARK  - 6 nights
All paved sites; very well maintained. Sites are way too close together. Tree and parking spots next to our site so it was nice not having an RV on the one side. Very little room between the picnic table and the RV behind us. Right off interstate, which is convenient. Negative, there is always traffic noise.

Spent a week here to see Sedona and the surrounding area.
Guess we brought the overcast, gray skies and drizzle with us.
Only had two days of sunshine.

Camp Verde:  Can't miss the huge Kokopelli in the stores' parking lot.
Sign says it's the world's largest.
TRIVIA: Who Was Kokopelli?
  • "Known as a fertility god, prankster, healer and story teller, Kokopelli embodies the true American Southwest, and dates back over 3,000 years ago, when the first petroglyphs were carved. Although his true origins are unknown, this traveling, flute-playing Casanova is a sacred figure to many Southwestern Native Americans. Carvings of this hunch-backed flute-playing figure have been found painted and carved into rock walls and boulders throughout the Southwest."

Montezuma Castle National Monument
"Gaze through the windows of the past into one of the best preserved cliff dwellings in North America."

Self-guided, 1/3-mile paved loop trail to 5-story cliff dwelling with a small reconstructed area in the mountain. A volunteer ranger was here telling us what it would have been like back then--he was so interesting. The path continued through a beautiful sycamore grove and along spring-fed Beaver Creek. Excellent Diorama with video depicting the life the people might have had.
  • HISTORY: "This 20 room high-rise apartment, nestled into a towering limestone cliff, tells a story of ingenuity, survival and ultimately, prosperity in an unforgiving desert landscape." Built between approximately 1100 and 1425 AD. The main structure comprises five stories and was built over the course of three centuries.
