SEDONA
"Nestled between the massive, fire-hued rocks of Red Rock State Park and the lush gorges of Oak Creek Canyon the giant, striped monoliths seem to change color with each passing cloud or ray of sunshine."

Drove up from Camp Verde three different days.
Sunshine only one day; the rest of the time cloudy and drizzly.

Oak Creek Village
Beautiful drive through here with the views of Cathedral Rock, Bell Rock and Courthouse Butte. Convenient vista/trailhead parking lots for appreciating these unique formations. Giant Monoliths everywhere and locals have named them. No wonder this is such a popular place for movies.
Sedona's Energy Vortexes are found at several of these sites.
Must not be doing something right; didn't "feel the energy."

- INFO: Vortex--specific fields that emit energy upward from the earth. Said to emanate three types of energy: electrical (masculine), magnetic (feminine), electromagnetic (neutral). These natural power fields are thought to energize and inspire. Sedona is said to contain a curiously high number and is one of the few places in world that possesses all three types of energy.
Chapel Hill
"The cross and the starkly beautiful chapel seem to grow directly from the rock, allowing the natural beauty of the red rock to speak for itself."
"The cross and the starkly beautiful chapel seem to grow directly from the rock, allowing the natural beauty of the red rock to speak for itself."
- INFO: With its contemporary styling, it is one of the most architecturally important modern churches in the country. Marguerite Brunswig Staude had the inspiration for the chapel in 1932, but it wasn't until 1957 that her dream was finally realized. The chapel's design is dominated by a simple cross forming the wall that faces the street.

Oak Creek Canyon Drive
Midgley Bidge--parking lot--steps down to a path overlooking Oak Creek; great view!
Stopped at Slide Rock State Park; fee to get in decided not worth it just to see slide rock on this drizzly day.

Crescent Moon Recreation Area
Red Rock Loop Road to get to The Crescent Moon Ranch Picnic Area at Red Rock Crossing. The map looked like Chavez Ranch Road went to it--one lane along mountain edge going down to valley. After getting to the valley, realized this was not the right way. Quite an adventurous little road! Headed back to Loop Road to the Crescent Moon Recreational Area, a national park but run by a concession; $10 to enter. This is where all the pictures of towering Cathedral Rock reflected in the waters of Oak Creek are taken. Excited to see this; not today, water flowing too rapidly. Even though no reflection, this is the best place for wonderful views of Cathedral Rock.

Drove back stopping at several pullouts for the changing colors of sunset.
Met people out for sunset tour, who told us to go Thunder Mountain & Chimney Rock, which we did. Wow, were they ever red--STUNNING!!!

This is the place to be if you like to shop; unique places everywhere.
Shopping is not usually on our itinerary; but with these overcast, rainy days shopping became the agenda.
