Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea
PORT MORESBY, PAPUA NEW GUINEA
Snorkel Trip Excursion was canceled; very disappointed. No explanation as to why by the ship's people in charge of excursions. After looking on the internet, the resort that had the snorkeling was sold and closed for renovations. Tried to arrange something on our own so emailed the dive shop in Port Moresby, but no luck contacting them.
When we arrived in port at 10:00, went straight to the information tent set up on the dock. The lady said the dive boats left already. Bummer!
Lois still a bit stuffed up so took it easy. Randy walked into town a little way; talked to men along the docks--security, fireman, dock worker--they explained the difference between Papuian (water people) and New Guinean (live in the mountains). Most of land and businesses have been bought by foreign companies. Always interesting to chat with local people to learn more about their country.
Nice not to have balcony facing docks. Beautiful views of mountains surrounding the bay. Sure enjoy watching the several outrigger canoes that paddled by and the local fishing boats that always wave.
We were eating dinner next to the windows at back of ship as it left port at 8 pm. The city views with all the twinkling lights going up the mountain was magical looking!
