Changing of Guard; Cruise Ship

Sunday, July 22, 2018
Athens, Greece
Breakfast at a Café a couple of blocks from the hotel. Walk through Snytagma Square to Parliament Building.
CHANGING OF THE GUARD happens every hour in front of the Parliament Building. The guards are a specially picked division known as the Evzones; the tallest, most handsome men are chosen. Their traditional uniform is quite a sight: hand-embroidered vests, traditional skirts (foustanela), tasseled hats, and crimson pom-pom tipped shoes.
Every Sunday at 11:00 the Evezones, accompanied by a military band, march from their barracks to the Tomb of the Unknown soldier where a ceremonial change of guards takes place. What a sight watching them swiftly march down the street in their unique way with stiff swaying arms & legs.

Athens was awesome; loved it more than we imagined. Great food, friendly people, lots to see, and views of the Acropolis from almost everywhere.
Afternoons were extremely hot this time of year.
22-day CRUISE on  Oceania Riviera
Taxi to Ship's Terminal. Very efficient, fast check-in; on the ship in no time. Enjoyed the delicious buffet lunch and talking with a couple from Islamorada, Florida, while waiting for the room.  Dinner in Polo Lounge with an interesting couple. The delightful staff even brought cake and candles for our 50th anniversary. We're in "Food Heaven"!!!
